Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
First off, I provide coaching services and not therapy.
Therapy is typically a long-term process where a client has a specific diagnosis recognized by healthcare service codes and the healthcare professional uses techniques to resolve the issues surrounding the diagnosis. An example is a client having a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder and the healthcare provider working to resolve the depressive symptoms with a technique such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Coaching is not based on a medical model and the coach is not operating as a healthcare professional to alleviate a specific diagnosis or illness. The coach is more solution and future-focused and on works towards building achievement and success.
What should I expect from the life coaching process?
I do not hold you to any commitment, but highly recommend at least 5 to 8 weeks of weekly or bi-weekly coaching sessions along with your own work outside of the sessions (meditation, brain-building exercises, taking action on goals). Change is more likely when there is accountability, consistency, planning and structure which I want to provide for you.
Sessions are held over the phone or video so you do not need to travel to meet me face to face. You can access my services from anywhere in the world.
What is the cost and how do I pay?
Payment is due before the session and can be done via this website through PayPal.
A few thoughts on the money mindset. The cost may seem high to some, to others maybe lower than they thought. For those that think it’s high, it is important to discuss how you are viewing the value of this service. One reason I got out of the medical model of therapy is I wanted to be able to see the amount of clients that made me be able to be fully present and energized and psyched in my work. This I knew would help me be an awesome coach, provide a better service, and so on.
If you are looking to save a few bucks and wanting to go a cheaper route, you may be operating out of a scarcity mindset and thinking I am here to take your money and you are going to get scammed and leave unhappy. This is operating out of fear, and what we fear, we create. If I walk into a room of people with the fear that I will be unliked, I will be stiff, not myself, and possibly even cold which will likely make people not want to be around me. If you live in the mindset of trust, abundance, that you got this, you are good enough and deserve to make yourself happy, you will create just that.
(I should also add that just thinking in your head that you deserve to be happy will most likely not create happiness. Really knowing what this feels like in the body, in your posture, in the expression on your face, in your energy level and the actions you take, this is what really believing that you deserve to be happy looks like. Again, you cannot think your way to happiness.)
It is helpful to think about transactions with money being win-win and not win-lose. We are living life well when we are not taking but instead creating through a healthy, collaborative give and take.
When we are living in fear, we often end up spending a lot of our money on things that bring comfort and facilitate avoidance of our real dreams. We want that next big screen TV or bigger house or eat too much fast food that harms our body. And then we scrimp on the things that really matter and really take us to the next level, which perpetuates the process.
It can also be helpful to spend some time really trying to visualize living in the abundant mindset. What would that look like? What do you feel when you are fully connected to feeling that everything in this life is for you and you are for it? Can you feel that energy in your body? Can you see what actions you would be taking? Can you see what you would be doing? If you just see yourself sipping mai tais on the beach you are more than likely in a fear and avoidance mindset or you may just need some down time and relaxation. I would hope you start to see yourself living out your strengths, or creating amazing products or art or value for others, or feeling deep connection with people you love.
Now if you were really doing these things, how much would it be worth to be able to actually get there? In my opinion, really reaching a level of happiness and freedom is worth ten times its weight in gold, it is priceless. I want to believe in that for you and hope you can believe in that for yourself.
